The Custodian Guard are the Emperor’s personal bodyguards, created using the same arcane methods that begat the Adeptus Astartes. Stronger than Space Marines and instilled with unshakable loyalty to the Emperor, the Adeptus Custodes now guard the Imperial Palace, having effectively become a defensive army. Three hundred Custodians, the Companions, still protect the Emperor as guardians of the Golden Throne.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. Who are the Adeptus Custodes?

The Adeptus Custodes are the elite of the elite, the main protectors of the Emperor of Mankind, and his palace. They are more genetically engineered than even the Adeptus Astartes. They carry out the will of their Emperor and his many closest emissaries.

  • 2. What is the Adeptus Custodes playstyle?

The Adeptus Custodes are small in number but powerful as they are elite units who can take out many enemies and take minimal losses. Their main forces are a bit on the slow side but they also have units that can bring mobility to the army if you really need it such as the Vertus Praetor jetbikes.

  • 3. What is the best way to get started with Adeptus Custodes?

First thing you will need is the Codex for your army which is a book supplement that gives you all the info you need to play and build the army as well as extra lore. The Codex you will need is Codex: Adeptus Custodes. The Start Collecting/Combat Patrol boxes are a great choice to start your army because they save you a better amount of money than if you bought the contents separately. Cool units you can buy for the Adeptus Custodes are: Vertus Predators, Witchseeker Squad, Custodian Wardens, and a few more as the unit composition of the army is smaller than most other armies.

  • 4. Who are some popular Adeptus Custodes Characters?

Talons of the Emperor: Valaryan and Aleya are a duo who participated in the thirteenth Black Crusade and Valaryan was named Hero of Lion’s Gate by Lord Commander Guilliman for his efforts while Aleya was named Knight-Centura. Captain General Trajann Valoris is the current Chief Custodian of the Adeptus Custodes and the 17th Captain General of the Adeptus Astartes. He is look upon as the personal embodiment of the Emperor himself and is known as the most deadly individual warrior in the Imperium.

  • 5. Are the Adeptus Custodes a good army?

The Adeptus Custodes are a good army like most armies in Warhammer 40k. If you are seeking a competitive army, then the answer depends on the meta at the time, as every army has their ups and downs in the competitive community. Casual players should not worry about good/bad as it's all about fun. We recommend Adeptus Custodes to players who may not want to paint a lot of models, but still want to field a strong army.
