Vallejo Pigments Dark Steel Pigment – VAL73123
Vallejo Dark Steel Pigment is designed for adding realistic weathering, aging, and metallic wear to vehicles, armor, fortifications, and terrain pieces. This finely processed earth and iron oxide pigment replicates the natural build-up of grime, soot, and metallic residue caused by long-term exposure, friction, and environmental conditions.
The pigment’s micronized texture ensures smooth dispersion in water, acrylic mediums, or turpentine, making it incredibly versatile for scale modeling and diorama work. Applied dry, Dark Steel offers subtle metallic shading, powdery soot effects, or the dull sheen of worn steel. For permanent application, Matte Medium provides a secure bond, while Glaze Medium allows extended working time to create natural run-offs, blended shadows, or controlled streaking across armor plates and mechanical components.
By combining this pigment with Vallejo’s Water & Stone range, even more complex surfaces can be achieved. Transparent Water works well for creating oily residues or grease-like finishes, and Sandy Paste builds textured layers that mimic caked dirt, heavy corrosion, or industrial debris. All pigments are non-toxic and packaged in 30 ml child-safe pots, with final weight varying from 17–39 grams depending on pigment density.
