Flames of War Polish Cavalry Squadron
Add the mobility and distinctive character of Polish mounted troops to your army with the Flames of War Polish Cavalry Squadron. Representing Poland's famous cavalry formations during the opening stages of the Second World War, this set is an excellent addition to a historically themed 1939 Polish force.
Polish cavalry combined traditional mounted mobility with modern battlefield tactics. Horses allowed cavalry formations to move rapidly across difficult terrain and respond to changing conditions, while troops could dismount when necessary to fight as conventional infantry.

Polish Cavalry in 1939
Polish cavalry entered the Second World War with a long and distinguished military tradition.
Despite popular depictions, these formations were not intended to routinely charge tanks with sabres. Their horses primarily provided mobility, allowing cavalrymen to move rapidly before dismounting to fight with modern weapons when circumstances required.
This combination made cavalry useful in a wide variety of battlefield situations.
Mounted Mobility
The Polish Cavalry Squadron represents these troops while mounted.
Horses allow the formation to visually represent the rapid movement that distinguished cavalry from conventional foot infantry.
Use mounted cavalry for scenarios involving:
-
Reconnaissance
-
Rapid movement
-
Flank security
-
Screening
-
Patrols
-
Delaying actions
-
Mobile reserves
-
Counterattacks
-
Withdrawal operations
Mounted & Dismounted Cavalry
The Cavalry Squadron pairs naturally with the Polish Dismounted Cavalry Regiment.
Together, the two sets allow you to represent different stages of cavalry operations:
Mounted: Move rapidly across the battlefield and reach key locations.
Dismounted: Represent the cavalrymen fighting on foot once serious combat begins.
This combination provides a particularly thematic way to build a Polish cavalry collection.
