Flames of War Polish 37mm Anti-Tank Platoon

Give your Polish infantry a dedicated defense against enemy armor with the Flames of War Polish 37mm Anti-Tank Platoon. Built around the effective 37mm anti-tank gun, this platoon provides Polish commanders with an important weapon for engaging tanks and other armored vehicles during battles inspired by the 1939 campaign.

Compact anti-tank guns can be positioned to cover important approaches, protect infantry formations, and threaten enemy vehicles attempting to break through your lines. Pair them with Rifle Platoons, machine guns, artillery, and 7TP tanks to create a more balanced Polish Flames of War force.

37mm Anti-Tank Guns

The Polish Army's 37mm anti-tank guns provided infantry formations with an important answer to enemy armored vehicles.

Their relatively compact size allowed crews to position the guns where they could cover roads, open ground, and other likely routes of enemy advance.

On the tabletop, the platoon gives your infantry force dedicated anti-tank firepower without relying entirely on friendly tanks to deal with enemy armor.

Defend Against Enemy Armor

Enemy tanks can quickly become a serious problem for infantry formations without dedicated anti-tank support.

Use your 37mm guns to:

  • Engage enemy tanks

  • Protect Rifle Platoons

  • Cover objectives

  • Guard roads and chokepoints

  • Support defensive positions

  • Threaten advancing vehicles

  • Strengthen your battle line

  • Create anti-tank ambushes

Careful positioning can force opposing armor to reconsider otherwise straightforward routes toward your objectives.

Support Your Rifle Company

The 37mm Anti-Tank Platoon fits naturally into a Polish infantry-focused force.

Combine it with:

  • Polish Rifle Company HQ

  • Rifle Platoons

  • Machine-Gun Platoons

  • Mortars

  • Artillery

  • 7TP tanks

  • Other support units

This provides your formation with a broader selection of tools for dealing with different battlefield threats.

Polish Forces in 1939

Anti-tank guns were particularly important during the September 1939 campaign, when Polish forces faced substantial enemy armored formations.

A 37mm Anti-Tank Platoon is therefore an excellent choice for recreating early Second World War battles involving Polish defensive positions and combined-arms forces.

Use the platoon in scenarios featuring:

  • Village defenses

  • Roadblocks

  • Defensive lines

  • Farmland

  • Forest edges

  • River crossings

  • Urban battles

  • Delaying actions

Create Anti-Tank Positions

Anti-tank gun teams provide excellent opportunities for building small scenic positions directly onto their bases.

Add details such as:

  • Ammunition crates

  • Sandbags

  • Dugouts

  • Grass

  • Mud

  • Camouflage

  • Battlefield debris

  • Crew equipment

This can help the guns visually blend into defensive positions on your gaming table.

Excellent Painting Project

The combination of gun crews and artillery pieces provides a different hobby experience from painting tanks or standard infantry.

Experiment with:

  • Polish uniforms

  • Gun shields

  • Metallic gun components

  • Wooden equipment

  • Ammunition

  • Crew gear

  • Dust and mud

  • Weathering

  • Earthworks

  • Scenic basing
