About the Vehicle
Developed in the 1930s, the BT-5 was part of the “Bystrokhodny Tank” (Fast Tank) series, heavily influenced by American engineer J. Walter Christie’s designs. It featured excellent road speed and decent cross-country performance, though thin armor left it vulnerable against heavier German vehicles by the outbreak of Operation Barbarossa. Despite these weaknesses, the BT-5 was widely used during the early campaigns, including the Spanish Civil War and the Winter War against Finland.
