Natal Carbineers

Armed with pistols and carbines, the Carbineers could:
-
Fire from horseback
-
Scout ahead of larger formations
-
Move rapidly across the battlefield
-
Dismount when necessary
-
Deliver disciplined volley fire on foot
Their flexibility makes them a natural choice for players looking to add mobile troops to their British forces.
Natal Mounted Police
The Natal Mounted Police were established in 1873 to strengthen the defenses of Natal.
The unit included European officers and NCOs alongside native personnel and provides a visually distinctive formation for the tabletop.
Their dark uniforms and contrasting white helmets offer a different painting scheme from the familiar red-coated British infantry found elsewhere in an Anglo-Zulu War army.
Natal Native Contingent
The Natal Native Contingent formed an important part of the forces available to British authorities in South Africa.
Many of its enlisted troops were drawn from peoples including the Basuto and Mpondo, who had previous experience fighting against Zulu forces.
The Contingent saw action during the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War and provides players with additional options for representing the variety of formations involved in the campaign.
