Malifaux is a narrative-rich skirmish miniature game set in a gothic horror, steampunk, and wild west-inspired alternate dimension. Powered by a unique card-based mechanic instead of dice, Malifaux challenges players with strategic resource management, themed crews, and scenario-based missions. With deep lore, beautifully detailed models, and asymmetrical factions, Malifaux is perfect for hobbyists and competitive players alike.
Malifaux is a skirmish-level tabletop miniatures game from Wyrd Miniatures. Set in a twisted, magical world fueled by soulstones and conflict, it features unique factions, each with their own playstyles and thematic strengths. Players assemble crews and battle across narrative-driven scenarios using a deck of cards rather than dice.
Malifaux uses a standard Fate Deck (based on a regular deck of cards) to resolve all actions, introducing a blend of randomness and player control. Players “flip” cards to determine outcomes and may use their hand of cards to “cheat fate,” allowing for tactical manipulation of results. This creates a more strategic experience than dice-based games.
Malifaux offers a range of diverse factions, including the Guild, Resurrectionists, Arcanists, Neverborn, Outcasts, Bayou, Explorer’s Society, and Ten Thunders. Each has unique masters (leaders) and thematic crews that bring distinct mechanics, miniatures, and tactics to the table.
Yes. Malifaux’s small model count and guided starter sets make it approachable for newcomers. The rules are deep but accessible, and the Fate Deck system encourages thoughtful play over luck. Starter boxes are available for each faction and include everything needed to begin learning the game.
Standard Malifaux games are played at 50 Soulstones (the game’s point system), with each crew typically fielding 6–10 models. Smaller games at 25 or 35 Soulstones are ideal for learning or quick matches, while tournaments and competitive play use the full 50 Soulstone format.
Malifaux stands out for its use of cards instead of dice, strong narrative integration, asymmetrical crews, and scenario-based gameplay. The game focuses more on tactics and positioning than brute force, with many victory conditions tied to completing schemes and interacting with the board rather than just defeating opponents.
Malifaux products are available at hobby shops, online retailers, and directly from Wyrd Miniatures. Starter sets, individual crew boxes, terrain, and official Fate Decks are all available to support your gameplay and collection needs.
