Games Workshop Air Paints â Citadel Airbrush Formula
Games Workshop's Citadel Air paints are pre-thinned acrylic paints designed specifically for airbrush use. Perfect for basecoating large models, achieving smooth blends, and speeding up batch painting, these airbrush-ready paints deliver consistent coverage while maintaining the signature Citadel color range. Whether you're working on Space Marines, terrain, or massive monsters, Citadel Air paints help streamline your hobby workflow.
Citadel Air paints are specially formulated acrylics pre-thinned for direct airbrush use. They mirror the color range of Games Workshopâs standard base and layer paints but come in a more fluid consistency ideal for spraying. This allows for fast, even coverage without needing to manually thin the paint before use.
While regular Citadel paints are thicker and designed for brush application, Citadel Air paints are ready-to-use straight from the pot in an airbrush. They flow more easily, minimize clogging, and are optimized for smooth transitions and large surface coverage, making them ideal for priming, basecoating, and highlighting with precision.
No thinning is required for most applications. However, depending on your airbrush setup and desired effect, you can further thin them with airbrush thinner or water. They are designed to work well at low to medium PSI settings right out of the bottle.
Citadel Air covers a wide range of the standard Citadel color palette, including Base, Layer, and some Dry and Shade equivalents. Popular colors like Abaddon Black, Mephiston Red, Macragge Blue, and Retributor Armour are all available in Air format, enabling consistent matching with brush-painted details.
Large models, vehicles, terrain pieces, and batch-painted armies benefit the most. Airbrushes with Citadel Air paints allow for faster basecoating, smoother transitions, and advanced effects like zenithal highlighting or object source lighting. Theyâre also great for cleanly applying metallics and blending gradients on curved surfaces.
Yes. They are a great way to start using an airbrush because they eliminate the need for thinning and mixing ratios. If you're new to airbrushing, Citadel Air paints let you focus on mastering control and technique without worrying about paint consistency.
Citadel Air paints are available from Games Workshop stores, hobby retailers, and online sellers. They are sold individually in 24ml pots and can be found in most places that stock Warhammer products. Be sure to store them sealed tightly to prevent drying and clogging over time.
