To counter this, the Wehrmacht fielded mobile anti-aircraft tanks such as the Wirbelwind and its successor, the Ostwind. The Wirbelwind’s quad 2cm cannons provided a high volume of fire, while the Ostwind’s 3.7cm FlaK43 offered superior range and hitting power. Both designs gave German armored formations much-needed protection from enemy aircraft while still being effective against light vehicles and infantry.
