Before England became a unified nation, its lands were divided among rival kingdoms facing a common enemy—the Great Heathen Army. Danish warriors raid settlements, seize silver, and march deeper into Saxon territory while defenders desperately attempt to halt their advance.
Caught between both worlds is Uhtred, born a Saxon but raised by Danes. His allegiance can shift throughout the conflict, making his support a valuable advantage as both players fight to influence him.
Destiny, however, may ultimately decide everything.
How to Play
Each round unfolds through raids, battles, tactical card play, and the unpredictable influence of Destiny.
Raid a Location
The Danish player begins by attempting to Raid a Location. A successful raid can provide additional forces for the upcoming battle, strengthening the invading army before the main confrontation begins.
Fight the Battle
The Danish and Saxon players then contest a Location.
Players alternate playing cards from their hands, including:
These cards increase each side's Battle Total and introduce tactical effects that can change the course of the confrontation.
Influence Uhtred
Both sides can attempt to draw Uhtred toward their cause. His divided loyalties between Saxon heritage and Danish upbringing make him an important element in the struggle.
Reveal Destiny
Finally, a Destiny Card is revealed.
Its effect can alter the battle at the last moment, potentially overturning carefully laid plans and changing which side emerges victorious.
