Airfix WWI Male Tank AIR01315 (1/76)
About the Vehicle
The British Mark I Male Tank was one of the first tanks ever used in combat and represented a revolutionary development in warfare during the First World War. Introduced in 1916, the tank was designed to break the deadlock of trench warfare by crossing trenches, crushing barbed wire, and providing armored support for advancing infantry.
The “Male” version of the tank was equipped with two 6-pounder naval guns mounted in side sponsons, along with several machine guns for additional defense. These early tanks made their combat debut at the Battle of the Somme, marking the beginning of armored warfare. While slow and mechanically challenging, they proved the concept of armored vehicles on the battlefield and paved the way for future tank development.
About the Model
This 1/76 scale Airfix kit recreates the distinctive rhomboid shape of the early British Male Tank, complete with its side-mounted gun sponsons and track system that wrapped around the entire hull. The unusual design made it capable of crossing trenches and rough battlefield terrain.
Part of Airfix’s classic small-scale military range, the kit offers a straightforward build and captures one of the most historically significant armored vehicles ever produced. It is an excellent addition to First World War collections, historical dioramas, or military model displays.
