AIRFIX AIR11005 AVRO SHACKLETON AEW.2 (1/72)

The Avro Shackleton AEW.2 was a British airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft that played a crucial role in the United Kingdom's air defense during the Cold War. Developed from the Avro Shackleton maritime patrol aircraft, the AEW.2 variant was specifically modified to carry a large radar system for detecting incoming threats, particularly Soviet bombers and submarines. The Shackleton AEW.2 served as a stopgap measure after the cancellation of the Fairey Gannet AEW.3 and before the introduction of the more advanced Boeing E-3 Sentry. Despite its relatively dated design, the Shackleton AEW.2 remained in service from the 1970s until the early 1990s, proving to be a reliable and effective part of the RAF's early warning network.
