Ogor Mawtribes Refresh: Our Impressions of the New Models

Ogor Mawtribes Refresh: Our Impressions of the New Models

The Ogor Mawtribes refresh was a long time coming.

For years, Ogor Mawtribes occupied a strange position within Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The faction itself remained distinctive and popular, but several of its most important kits were visibly carrying their Warhammer Fantasy heritage into a game where many competing armies had received substantially newer miniature ranges.

That finally changed in 2026.

Games Workshop has refreshed the heart of the Ogor Mawtribes range with new Ogor Gluttons, Ironguts, a Tyrant, Maulbeast Cavalry, and an entire new branch of the faction built around the Mawseekers. The wider release also brings imposing new characters and monsters such as Morga the Mighty.

After seeing the new range come together, our overall impression is very positive.

This is the refresh Ogor Mawtribes needed.

More importantly, Games Workshop has modernized the faction without removing what made Ogors visually appealing in the first place.

They are still enormous, hungry, brutal warriors covered in battered equipment, trophies, meat, fur, and oversized weapons.

They just finally look like a modern Age of Sigmar army.

Browse the refreshed range in our Ogor Mawtribes collection at Tistaminis.

Our Short Take

The 2026 Ogor Mawtribes refresh is a success.

The biggest win is not any one spectacular centrepiece. It is that Games Workshop finally replaced several of the models players use to form the core of an Ogor army.

The new Gluttons and Ironguts are especially important. Maulbeast Cavalry adds a completely new silhouette to the faction, while the Mawseekers expand Ogor culture beyond the familiar Gutbuster and Beastclaw themes.

If you have always liked Ogor Mawtribes but the age of the miniature range stopped you from starting them, that objection is much harder to make in 2026.

Why the Ogor Mawtribes Range Needed This Refresh

There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the old Ogor concept.

The problem was age.

Several core Ogor kits originated from an earlier generation of Games Workshop miniature design. That became increasingly noticeable as Age of Sigmar factions received:

  • More dynamic poses
  • Sharper sculpted detail
  • Better proportions
  • More varied silhouettes
  • More elaborate characters

Ogor armies could still look impressive because the models are physically large, but the gap between old and new kits was becoming increasingly obvious.

The Correct Kits Were Updated

This is the most important part of the refresh.

Games Workshop did not simply add one spectacular Hero and leave the rest of the army untouched. Gluttons and Ironguts are fundamental Ogor units, so updating them changes how an entire army looks on the tabletop.

9/10 New Ogor Gluttons: Probably the Most Important Update

The new Ogor Gluttons may not be the flashiest models in the release.

They may be the most important.

Gluttons are the classic image of an Ogor Mawtribes army: huge warriors marching forward with crude weapons, battered equipment, and an overwhelming desire to eat whatever happens to be standing in front of them.

What the New Models Improve

  • More natural posing
  • Better proportions
  • Sharper details
  • More personality
  • Improved weapons
  • Better integration with modern Age of Sigmar aesthetics

Most importantly, they still look like Ogor Gluttons.

Games Workshop resisted the temptation to redesign them so aggressively that they stopped matching the established faction.

The New Gluttons Still Look Like an Army

This matters with rank-and-file models.

Not every miniature needs to look like a unique character performing an elaborate action.

Gluttons need enough variety to remain visually interesting while still looking like a coherent group of enormous warriors.

The new kit achieves that balance well.

On the Table, We Expect Them to Work Particularly Well In:

  • Units of several Ogors
  • Large Meatfist-style armies
  • Mixed Gutbuster forces
  • Display armies built around the refreshed range

9/10 New Ironguts: Exactly What We Wanted

If Gluttons represent the core Ogor warrior, Ironguts represent the elite version.

The new sculpts lean properly into that idea.

They look heavier.

More dangerous.

Better equipped.

And importantly, they look visually distinct enough from Gluttons that the difference is immediately obvious.

The New Ironguts Emphasize:

  • Oversized weapons
  • Heavy equipment
  • Elite status
  • Brutal melee presence

This is exactly what an elite infantry update should accomplish.

You should be able to look across the table and immediately identify which Ogors are the ones you really do not want reaching your battle line.

Gluttons and Ironguts Now Look Like They Belong in the Same Modern Range

This sounds obvious, but it matters enormously for army presentation.

When core troops and elite troops come from completely different miniature generations, an army can look visually inconsistent.

The new range fixes that.

Gluttons and Ironguts now share:

  • Modern proportions
  • Similar detail quality
  • Compatible visual language
  • Modern basing presence

A newly built Ogor army should look substantially more cohesive.

8.5/10 The New Tyrant Fits the Army Perfectly

The new Ogor Tyrant does not need to reinvent what an Ogor commander looks like.

He needs to look like the biggest problem in a group already consisting entirely of very large problems.

The refreshed Tyrant accomplishes that.

What We Like

  • Strong silhouette
  • Large weaponry
  • Clear command presence
  • Plenty of character
  • Fits naturally beside the new infantry

It is a good example of a model that feels new without feeling disconnected from the army's history.

9/10 Maulbeast Cavalry Is One of the Best New Ideas

Maulbeast Cavalry may be our favourite addition from the perspective of expanding the faction.

Ogor Mawtribes already had large infantry.

They already had enormous monsters.

They already had Beastclaw cavalry.

But Maulbeasts introduce another mounted concept that visually bridges the space between the foot-heavy Gutbusters and the giant Beastclaw monsters.

Why They Work

  • They add a different silhouette.
  • They reinforce the faction's brutality.
  • They make the army look faster.
  • They provide excellent painting opportunities.
  • They expand the army without feeling out of place.
Good Range Expansion

The best new miniature does not always need to replace something old.

Maulbeast Cavalry works because it gives Ogor players something genuinely new while still looking unmistakably like it belongs in Ogor Mawtribes.

Maulbeasts Are Also Great Hobby Models

From a painting perspective, mounted Ogors give you two very different surfaces to work with.

The Ogor Gives You:

  • Skin
  • Leather
  • Metal
  • Cloth
  • Weapons

The Maulbeast Gives You:

  • Fur
  • Hide
  • Claws
  • Teeth
  • Organic textures

That makes them a nice break between batches of infantry.

9.5/10 Morga the Mighty Is the Showpiece

If the Gluttons are the most important part of the refresh, Morga the Mighty may be the most spectacular.

This is the kind of miniature modern Age of Sigmar does extremely well.

Large.

Characterful.

Immediately identifiable.

And capable of acting as the visual centre of an entire collection.

Why Morga Works

  • Strong scale
  • Excellent mounted silhouette
  • Lots of texture
  • Clear character identity
  • Impressive tabletop presence

For painters, this is likely to be one of the models people spend significantly more time on than the surrounding army.

The Tyrant on Glutthorn Alternative Build Is Important

The Morga kit can alternatively build a Tyrant on Glutthorn.

We like this because it prevents the large kit from being useful only to players who specifically want the named character.

The Generic Build Is Better For:

  • Custom armies
  • Players creating their own Tyrant
  • Different army themes
  • Players who do not want named characters

Alternative builds increase the usefulness of an expensive centrepiece kit considerably.

The Mawseekers Are the Most Interesting Creative Addition

The Mawseekers are arguably more important to Ogor lore than any single refreshed sculpt.

Instead of simply updating existing units, Games Workshop has expanded what an Ogor Mawtribes army can represent.

Mawseekers are driven by their search for the legendary Gulping God.

That gives them a distinctive identity within the wider culture of the Mawtribes.

Why We Like the Idea

Ogor culture has always revolved heavily around hunger and consumption.

The Mawseekers take that foundation and push it into a more spiritual, obsessive direction.

That gives Games Workshop room to create new:

  • Characters
  • Units
  • Army themes
  • Visual motifs
  • Narrative campaigns

The Refresh Expands Ogors Instead of Replacing Them

This may be the biggest creative success of the entire release.

The faction now supports several visually distinct directions.
