New Ogor Mawtribes Battletome: What's Changed for Age of Sigmar Players?
New Ogor Mawtribes Battletome: What's Changed for Age of Sigmar Players?
The new Ogor Mawtribes Battletome has arrived alongside one of the biggest updates the faction has received in years.
New Gluttons.
New Ironguts.
New characters.
New Maulbeast Cavalry.
New Mawseekers.
And, importantly, a new rules package that gives Ogor Mawtribes considerably more to think about than simply running forward and smashing whatever happens to be standing in front of them.
Do not misunderstand us.
Running forward and smashing things is still very much part of the plan.
Games Workshop still describes Ogor Mawtribes as an elite army that moves quickly and hits hard. The difference is that the new battletome adds more meaningful decisions around what your Ogors eat, where units are positioned, which combats happen first, how your army deploys, and what happens after the initial charge.
For existing Ogor players, this makes the 2026 battletome much more than a collection of updated warscrolls.
For new players, it gives the faction a clearer and more distinctive mechanical identity.
Here's what has changed and what it means for your army.

- Eat 'Em Alive becomes one of the faction's defining mechanics.
- Ogors can gain persistent bonuses by feasting after combat.
- Battle formations interact more directly with how you build and play the army.
- Beastclaw forces gain powerful deployment and flanking options.
- Three new Armies of Renown provide specialized ways to build Ogors.
- Mawseekers introduce a new thematic branch of the faction.
- New and refreshed units significantly expand the roster.
- The army still hits extremely hard, but positioning and activation order matter more.
Our overall impression: the battletome keeps the straightforward brutality that makes Ogors fun while giving experienced players more tactical decisions to master.

#1 Eat 'Em Alive Is the Big New Army Mechanic
If there is one rule that defines the new Ogor Mawtribes battletome, it is Eat 'Em Alive.
The concept is exactly as subtle as you would expect from Ogors:
Fight something. Then eat it.
But mechanically, there is more going on.
At the end of a turn, an eligible Ogor unit that fought can use Eat 'Em Alive against an enemy it is still engaged with and potentially gain a powerful benefit.
Those benefits can remain relevant for the rest of the battle.
Why This Is Important
In the previous style of Ogor play, much of your thinking naturally focused on:
- Getting into combat
- Making the charge
- Delivering damage
- Surviving the retaliation
You still care about all of those things.
But now you also need to think about:
What does this unit need after the fight?
Eat 'Em Alive can shape how a unit performs for the rest of the game.
That means your first successful combat can influence how you intend to use that unit in rounds three, four, and five.
The Feast You Choose Matters
Games Workshop has previewed different feast effects intended to support different battlefield roles.
For example, Steaming Brains can improve the Control characteristic of a unit.
That immediately creates an interesting use for Gluttons.
Imagine the Situation
Your Gluttons win an early combat around an objective.
Instead of simply thinking:
"Great, they killed something."
You can potentially turn that success into improved objective control for the rest of the game.
Now those same Gluttons become considerably harder to dislodge from important scoring positions.
Crunchy Bones Makes Your Heavy Hitters Even More Dangerous
Games Workshop has also specifically highlighted Crunchy Bones for units such as Ironguts and Gorger Mawpacks.
The concept is straightforward:
Take a unit that is already dangerous in melee and feed it something that helps it continue smashing through enemy units.
This Creates an Interesting Snowball Effect
A successful Ogor unit can potentially become more useful after it has already done its job.
That creates a different decision from simply trading units.
You May Want to Protect a Unit That Has Already Feasted
Once an important unit has gained the right benefit, it may become more valuable than an identical unit elsewhere in your army.
That gives your opponent another priority target—and gives you another reason to think about positioning.
#2 Ogors Now Reward More Planning After Combat
This may be the most important gameplay change for experienced players.
The faction still rewards aggression.
But aggression alone is not enough.
Anthony Magro of AoS Coach highlighted exactly this point after spending time with the new battletome: the army still moves forward and hits extremely hard, but the new rules also reward careful positioning, smart activation order, and choosing which feast prepares a unit for its next fight.
That Means You Need to Think About:
- Which combat happens first
- Which unit needs to survive
- Which feast each unit wants
- Where the unit needs to be next turn
- Whether an objective is more important than another kill
- Which enemy unit is worth committing to
The new battletome does not ask you to abandon aggression.
It asks you to become more deliberate about what happens after the charge connects.
#3 Maw-Cult Fanatics Can Turn Feasting Into Durability
One of the new battle formations, Maw-Cult Fanatics, interacts directly with Eat 'Em Alive.
Its Grub's Up, Mateys! ability allows your army to gain additional value when your Ogors feast.
Games Workshop specifically points toward healing as part of this formation's appeal.
Why This Matters
Ogors already have substantial Health characteristics.
Healing multi-wound models can therefore be considerably more meaningful than restoring wounds to disposable infantry.
The Formation Encourages a Cycle
- Reach combat.
- Deal damage.
- Eat.
- Recover.
- Move toward the next meal.
It is extremely thematic.
More importantly, it gives players interested in classic infantry-heavy Ogors a clear mechanical direction.
What Does This Mean for Ogor Gluttons?
Gluttons remain central to the faction.
That is good news for both existing collections and players starting with the new Army Set.
The new models are a major visual refresh, but the battletome also gives Gluttons an important place mechanically.
Gluttons Can Function As:
- Core melee infantry
- Objective holders
- Large multi-wound scoring units
- Recipients of Eat 'Em Alive bonuses
Feast effects that improve Control make Gluttons particularly interesting around objectives.
They are not simply bodies you send forward to deal damage.
They can become increasingly difficult scoring pieces after successful fights.

What Does the Battletome Change for Ironguts?
Ironguts remain the faction's elite heavy infantry.
They are the Ogors you look toward when something particularly unpleasant needs to be removed.
The New Battletome Reinforces Their Role
Instead of transforming them into something completely different, the wider army mechanics give you more ways to enhance what they already do well.
That is good design for an established faction.
For Existing Players
You do not need to relearn the entire fantasy of the unit.
Ironguts are still:
- Elite
- Hard-hitting
- Dangerous in melee
- Natural companions to Tyrants
The difference is that feast choices and army synergies can make their role more dynamic over the course of the battle.
#4 Beastclaw Armies Gain New Deployment Tricks
This is one of the changes we find particularly interesting.
Beastclaw Ogors already have an obvious fantasy:
Huge monsters and mounted hunters thundering into the enemy.
The new battletome gives them additional ways to decide where that attack comes from.
Jaws of the Beast
A Beastclaw Hero leading a regiment can begin off the battlefield with another non-Hero unit from its regiment.
They are described as tracking the prey.
Closing the Jaws
Those units can later enter from a battlefield edge while maintaining the required distance from enemy models.
Why This Is Significant
Consider putting a Huskard on Stonehorn and Stonehorn Beastriders into reserve.
Your opponent now needs to consider where those enormous threats might arrive rather than simply deploying everything to counter a visible monster directly in front of them.
The ability to threaten from an unexpected flank changes how your opponent has to deploy and commit their own units. A reserve Stonehorn is a threat your opponent must plan for throughout the entire battle — not just when they can see it.
#5 Mawseekers: A New Thematic Branch of the Faction
Mawseekers are one of the most significant additions to the Ogor Mawtribes range in this battletome cycle.
Where classic Ogors are driven by hunger in the most literal sense — eat everything, smash everything, move on — Mawseekers represent something more obsessive.
These are Ogors and their followers who have devoted themselves entirely to the Gulping God.
Their entire existence is shaped around the pursuit of the Maw's favour.
What This Means on the Table
Mawseekers introduce new units and a new thematic direction that supports a distinct playstyle within the broader Ogor faction.
They are not simply repackaged Gutbusters or Beastclaw Raiders.
They represent a third pillar for the army — one with its own units, its own aesthetic, and its own mechanical identity.
Why This Matters for Collectors
If you are building a new Ogor army, Mawseekers give you a distinct visual and thematic direction that sits alongside — rather than replacing — the existing range.
If you already own Ogors, they provide an expansion path that adds something genuinely new to your collection rather than simply refreshing what you already have.
Mawseekers are an excellent entry point for players drawn to the cult-like, devotional side of the faction. They offer a cohesive visual identity and a clear thematic hook from the moment you start building your army.
#6 Three Armies of Renown Give You More Ways to Build
The 2026 battletome introduces three Armies of Renown for Ogor Mawtribes.
Each one provides a focused, thematic way to build and play the faction — with specific rules, restrictions, and benefits that push your army in a particular direction.
Why Armies of Renown Matter
Standard army construction gives you access to the full Ogor roster.
Armies of Renown ask you to commit to a particular identity — and reward that commitment with abilities and synergies that a general list cannot access.
For competitive players, they provide focused power packages built around specific unit combinations.
For narrative and thematic players, they give your army a clear identity and backstory built directly into the rules.
What to Expect
Each Army of Renown has:
- Specific unit requirements and restrictions
- Unique abilities not available to a standard Ogor list
- A distinct playstyle that reflects its thematic identity
If you prefer objective holding and sustained infantry combat, look toward the Maw-Cult Fanatics direction. If you want fast, monster-heavy flanking pressure, Beastclaw-focused options will suit you. If the Mawseeker aesthetic appeals to you, that branch has its own dedicated path as well.
Is the New Ogor Mawtribes Battletome Worth It?
For existing Ogor players: Yes. The battletome builds directly on what you already own. Your Gluttons, Ironguts, and Beastclaw units are still relevant and are now supported by a more interesting rules package. The Eat 'Em Alive mechanic adds genuine depth without making the army unrecognizable.
For new players: Yes. The 2026 Army Set is an excellent starting point, and the battletome gives you a clear picture of where the faction is going. Mawseekers and the Armies of Renown give you multiple directions to grow the collection.
For competitive players: Watch this space. The feast mechanic, Beastclaw deployment tricks, and Armies of Renown all have the potential to be strong in the right lists. How the meta develops will determine which builds rise to the top.
