Meatfist, Beastclaw or Mawseeker? New Ogor Mawtribes Armies of Renown Explained

Meatfist, Beastclaw or Mawseeker? New Ogor Mawtribes Armies of Renown Explained

The new Battletome: Ogor Mawtribes does more than update the faction's core rules and miniatures. It gives Ogor players three very different ways to specialize their armies through new Armies of Renown: Meatfist Mawtribe, Beastclaw Alfrostun, and Mawseeker Gollop. All three are still unmistakably Ogor armies — they want to move forward, hit hard, and eat whatever is left. But the way they accomplish that is surprisingly different.

Meatfist leans toward traditional Ogor infantry and brutal close combat. Beastclaw embraces monsters, mounted hunters, and the supernatural protection of the Everwinter. Mawseeker is the strangest of the three, collecting ingredients from defeated enemies and turning them into increasingly powerful battlefield feasts. Browse the updated range in our Ogor Mawtribes collection at Tistaminis.

Which Ogor Army of Renown Should You Play?
  • Choose Meatfist Mawtribe if you want traditional Ogor infantry, Gluttons, Ironguts, aggressive charges, and straightforward melee brutality.
  • Choose Beastclaw Alfrostun if you want mounted Ogors, Stonehorns, Thundertusks, monster-heavy armies, and the Everwinter protecting your advance.
  • Choose Mawseeker Gollop if you want the newest Ogor theme, Feastmasters, Mawseekers, resource management, and an army that becomes increasingly dangerous as it consumes enemies.

There is no universal best choice. These three Armies of Renown are designed around different parts of the Ogor range.

What Is an Army of Renown?

An Army of Renown is a specialized way to build an Age of Sigmar army around a more focused theme. Instead of using the normal faction rules and unrestricted roster, you agree to additional army-building limitations in exchange for a dedicated set of battle traits, enhancements, army abilities, and thematic rules. That makes them more restrictive than a normal Ogor Mawtribes army — but the reward is a much stronger individual identity.

Think of an Army of Renown as a Specialized Build

You are giving up some flexibility of the full Ogor Mawtribes battletome in exchange for rules designed specifically around one particular style of Ogor warfare.

MEATFIST What Is the Meatfist Mawtribe?

The Meatfist Mawtribe is the closest of the three to the classic image of an Ogor army. Huge infantry, big weapons, hard charges, and very little interest in subtlety once combat begins. The Meatfist regard themselves as the greatest of the Mawtribes, tracing their heritage to a legendary founder said to have torn the guts from a Ghurish Titanox with his bare hands. Their battlefield rules reward Ogors who get into combat and punish enemies foolish enough to fight them directly.

Bloodthirsty Arrogance: Making Every Fight Painful

When Meatfist infantry that did not charge that turn rolls an unmodified save of 1 against a combat attack, the attacking unit suffers mortal damage after its Fight ability resolves. Your opponent can hurt your Ogors — but even successful aggression carries a price. This creates a genuine defensive layer around units otherwise associated with charging forward, particularly rewarding large infantry in grinding combats, holding contested objectives, and forcing opponents to attack into your battle line.

Meatfist Is the Natural Home for the New Infantry

The 2026 Ogor refresh gave the faction completely redesigned Gluttons and Ironguts, making Meatfist particularly attractive right now. A Meatfist collection naturally wants Ogor Gluttons, Ironguts, Tyrants, supporting Gutbuster units, and infantry-focused Heroes. If the reason you started Ogor Mawtribes was the image of enormous warriors advancing in blocks, this is probably your Army of Renown.

Snott, Gnoblar Thief Is Peak Ogor Nonsense

Meatfist also has access to one of the more characterful artefact concepts in the new book: Snott, Gnoblar Thief, who can attempt to steal an enemy Hero’s artefacts rather than making your Tyrant’s weapon slightly sharper. It reinforces that Ogor armies should not feel completely serious — brutal monsters mixed with dark humour, Gnoblar incompetence, strange cooking, and absurd stories.

Play Meatfist if you want the classic Ogor experience.

Gluttons, Ironguts, Tyrants, charges, grinding melee, and enormous infantry models are what this army is about. It is also our first recommendation for someone who bought the new Ogor Mawtribes Army Set and wants an obvious direction for expanding it.

BEASTCLAW What Is the Beastclaw Alfrostun?

Beastclaw Alfrostun focuses on the ancient nomadic hunting culture of the Beastclaw Raiders — Ogors pursued by the supernatural Everwinter, a magical storm that follows them wherever they travel. Massive mounted Ogors, Stonehorns, Thundertusks, hunting parties, frozen battlefields. If you want your army to consist of a handful of enormous problems rather than multiple infantry blocks, start here.

Masked by the Endless White: Protecting Your Advance

Friendly Alfrostun units are not visible to enemy units more than 12 inches away. The Everwinter is not just background lore — it physically obscures your army as it advances, protecting against long-range shooting and targeted abilities while your monsters close the distance. Once they arrive, Grasp of the Everwinter can inflict D3 mortal damage per turn on enemy units already locked in combat with your Alfrostun units. The rules package follows a simple logic: the Everwinter hides you, your monsters hit them, the Everwinter keeps hurting them.

Why Low Model Count Matters

Fewer miniatures to assemble, transport, and paint. More time per model. A visually impressive army from remarkably few kits. The tradeoff is that every model matters — losing one major Beastclaw piece can represent a substantial portion of your army. Know that going in.

Play Beastclaw if your favourite Ogor miniature is probably standing on top of another enormous creature.

This is the Army of Renown for players who want speed, monsters, snow, and a small number of extremely dangerous models.

MAWSEEKER What Is Mawseeker Gollop?

Mawseeker Gollop is the most unusual of the three and the one that best showcases the new direction of the 2026 refresh. Mawseekers are fanatical Ogors guided by gastro-shamans and driven by a spiritual search connected to the Gulping God. Their Army of Renown turns the battlefield into one enormous grocery run: defeated enemies become raw ingredients, ingredients become recipes, and recipes make your army stronger.

Ooh, That Looks Tasty…: Kills Into Resources

Whenever an enemy unit is destroyed, Mawseeker Gollop gains raw ingredients based on the destroyed unit’s starting size and Health characteristic. A unit with 10 starting models and 2 Health each provides 20 raw ingredients. You are building a resource engine during the battle — early kills matter not only because enemy models disappear, but because they fuel abilities for later turns.

The Feastmaster and the Organ Platter

The army revolves around a Feastmaster who becomes the centre of the cooking-and-consumption mechanics — positioning around this model matters throughout the game. Spending 20 raw ingredients activates The Organ Platter, giving friendly Gollop units within range Crit (Mortal) on their melee weapons for the rest of the phase. The gameplay loop: destroy enemies → collect ingredients → spend ingredients → buff your Ogors → destroy more enemies. Thematically, it may be the most Ogor mechanic Games Workshop has ever written.

Play Mawseeker if the new 2026 Ogor range is what convinced you to start the faction.

It has the strongest new identity, the strangest mechanics, and arguably the most thematic resource system of the three. Browse the latest Ogor Mawtribes and Mawseeker miniatures as you plan the army.

What About Regiments of Renown?

The battletome also introduces Regiments of Renown, which differ from Armies of Renown. Okar’s Torrbad (a Huskard on Stonehorn and Thundertusk Beastriders) can be included in other Destruction armies. Urrgar’s Maulerguts (a Tyrant on Glutthorn and two Maulbeast Cavalry) has a flanking mechanic allowing it to arrive from a battlefield edge. An Army of Renown changes how your entire army is built. A Regiment of Renown is a self-contained group of units that can be added to another eligible army — a meaningful distinction.

Are Armies of Renown Better Than a Normal Ogor Mawtribes Army?

Not automatically. Choose a normal Ogor army if you want maximum unit flexibility, want to mix several parts of the range, or want Meatfist infantry and Beastclaw monsters in the same list. Choose an Army of Renown if you love one specific theme, already own the relevant collection, enjoy specialized mechanics, or want your army to have a very clear identity.

Do Not Force It

If you own a broad Ogor collection and enjoy using all of it, the normal battletome may suit you better than any Army of Renown.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Ogor Mawtribes Armies of Renown are in the new battletome?

The 2026 Battletome: Ogor Mawtribes contains three new Armies of Renown: Meatfist Mawtribe, Beastclaw Alfrostun, and Mawseeker Gollop.

What is the Meatfist Mawtribe Army of Renown?

Meatfist Mawtribe is an infantry-focused Ogor Army of Renown built around aggressive combat and classic Ogor units. Its Bloodthirsty Arrogance rule punishes enemies who attack Meatfist infantry in sustained combats.

What is the Beastclaw Alfrostun Army of Renown?

Beastclaw Alfrostun focuses on the Beastclaw side of Ogor Mawtribes — mounted hunters and giant monsters. Its Everwinter rules hide units from enemies more than 12 inches away and damage enemies already fighting the Alfrostun in combat.

What is Mawseeker Gollop?

Mawseeker Gollop is an Army of Renown built around the new Mawseeker side of the faction. It collects raw ingredients when enemy units are destroyed and spends those ingredients on powerful battlefield recipes like The Organ Platter.

Which Ogor Army of Renown is best for beginners?

We recommend Meatfist Mawtribe for most beginners. Its infantry-focused game plan is easy to understand and works naturally with the units included in the 2026 Ogor Mawtribes Army Set.

Which Ogor Army of Renown has the fewest models?

Beastclaw Alfrostun will generally have the lowest model count. It can invest heavily in mounted Ogors, Stonehorns, Thundertusks, and other large models that represent significant points in a small number of kits.

Which Army of Renown uses the newest Ogor models?

Mawseeker Gollop is most directly associated with the new Mawseeker units introduced during the 2026 faction refresh.

What is the difference between an Army of Renown and a Regiment of Renown?

An Army of Renown changes the rules and restrictions for your entire army. A Regiment of Renown is a specific self-contained group of units that eligible factions can add to an otherwise normal army without changing its overall structure.

Are Armies of Renown better than a normal Ogor Mawtribes army?

Not automatically. Armies of Renown provide specialized rules but impose roster restrictions. A normal Ogor Mawtribes army is better if you want maximum flexibility across the entire faction range and want to mix units from different parts of the roster.

Final Verdict

The new battletome gives Ogor players three genuinely different specialized armies rather than three minor variations on the same list.

Meatfist Mawtribe: Classic Ogors. Gluttons, Ironguts, Tyrants, charges, grinding melee. Make anyone fighting you regret getting too close.

Beastclaw Alfrostun: A handful of enormous models emerging from a magical blizzard, crashing into the enemy, and bringing the Everwinter into combat with them. If Stonehorns are the reason you started collecting Ogors, this choice almost makes itself.

Mawseeker Gollop: Defeated enemies become ingredients. Ingredients become recipes. Recipes make the army increasingly dangerous. It takes the fundamental Ogor concept of eating everything and turns it into an actual resource system — ridiculous and extremely appropriate in equal measure.

And if you want Gluttons marching beside Maulbeast Cavalry while a Stonehorn crashes into one flank and Mawseekers cast gut magic from behind the line, the standard Ogor Mawtribes rules give you the broader toolbox. Armies of Renown are best when you already know which part of the faction you love most.
