Cyberpunk Trading Card Game: Everything You Need to Know
Night City is coming to the tabletop with the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game, a new competitive TCG based on the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Created by WeirdCo, the Cyberpunk TCG combines deck building, character-driven strategies, dice, resource management, and direct competition over jobs known as Gigs. Players assemble crews featuring recognizable characters and factions from Night City, then compete to build their reputation and become a legend.
The game attracted enormous attention before its retail launch, with more than 50,000 Kickstarter backers supporting the project. Its first major retail set, Welcome to Night City, begins its prerelease period on October 30, 2026.

What Is the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game?
Cyberpunk TCG is a competitive trading card game built around assembling a crew and establishing your reputation in Night City.
Rather than simply reducing an opponent's life total to zero, the game revolves around completing and stealing Gigs.
Gigs are represented by polyhedral dice. As the game progresses, players accumulate these dice and defend them from their opponent.
If you begin your turn controlling at least seven Gigs, you win.
This creates an objective-based game where attacking your opponent isn't necessarily about dealing conventional damage. Your crew is fighting over the jobs and opportunities that will eventually make them legends of Night City.
Welcome to Night City: The First Cyberpunk TCG Set
Welcome to Night City is the introductory set for Cyberpunk TCG.
The set draws heavily from the characters, corporations, technology, and locations associated with the Cyberpunk universe.
Players can encounter recognizable characters including V, Jackie Welles, Johnny Silverhand, Judy Álvarez, Panam Palmer, Adam Smasher, David Martinez, Lucy, Goro Takemura, members of the Arasaka family, and many more.
The set isn't designed purely as a collection of recognizable characters. Those characters are incorporated into the game's different strategies, affiliations, and deck-building options.
How Does Cyberpunk TCG Play?
The basic objective is straightforward:
Start your turn with seven Gigs and you win.
Getting there is where the strategy develops.
At the beginning of each turn, you gain a new Gig by taking one of your remaining polyhedral dice, rolling it, and placing it into your Gig area.
Your opponent can attack your Gig area and steal those dice.
You therefore need to balance building your own board, protecting your Gigs, disrupting your opponent, and deciding when to commit your crew to an attack.
What Are Gigs?
Gigs represent jobs completed by your crew and are the primary objective of Cyberpunk TCG.
Each Gig is represented by a die.
Importantly, the number shown on a die does not determine how many Gigs it represents. One die always counts as one Gig.
The value rolled does matter for other card effects, however.
The combined value of your Gig dice determines your Street Cred, which can activate or interact with certain abilities.
This creates two different considerations: how many Gigs you control and what values are showing on those dice.
What Are Eddies?
Night City runs on money, and Cyberpunk TCG incorporates that idea directly into its resource system.
The game's currency is Eddies, short for eurodollars.
Instead of using a completely separate resource deck, players can sell eligible cards from their hand. A sold card is placed face-down in the Eddies area and becomes a reusable resource.
Each Eddie can then be spent to pay toward the cost of playing cards.
This creates an important decision throughout the game: do you keep a useful card because you might need its effect later, or sell it to build your economy?
What Are Legends?
Legends are some of the most important characters in your deck.
Each player begins with three Legends placed face-down in a random order.
Once per turn, you can spend an Eddie to Call a Legend, randomly revealing one of those characters and gaining access to its abilities.
Legends can also function as resources. A Legend can be spent to contribute one Eddie toward a cost whether it is currently face-up or face-down.
This gives the Legend system multiple strategic roles: your characters can shape your deck, provide abilities, enter the battlefield in appropriate circumstances, or help pay for other cards.
The Four Main Cyberpunk TCG Card Types
Legends
Legends are centerpiece characters around which your crew and strategy can be built. You begin with three Legends in a separate Legends area.
Units
Units represent the active members of your crew.
They enter the field, fight rival Units, and can attack an opponent's Gig area to steal Gigs.
Newly played Units normally enter with Lag, preventing them from immediately attacking or using certain abilities.
Gear
Gear represents the weapons, cyberware, equipment, and other technology that can be attached to your characters.
Gear can increase a Unit's capabilities or provide additional effects.
Programs
Programs provide immediate effects that can alter the state of the game and disrupt your opponent's plans.
Combat and Stealing Gigs
Units can attack rival Units or target the opponent's Gig area.
Attacking Units are spent as part of the attack, creating another layer of decision-making because a committed Unit may become vulnerable afterward.
Power determines how effective Units are during fights and can also affect how many Gigs are stolen when attacking the opposing Gig area.
The result is a game that encourages players to continually decide between developing their board, protecting what they already control, and making aggressive moves toward the win condition.
What's Different About Cyberpunk TCG?
Several mechanics help distinguish Cyberpunk from more traditional trading card games.
Dice Are Part of the Game
Polyhedral dice aren't simply counters or accessories. They directly represent the Gigs players are fighting to control.
The game uses a set including a D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, and D20.
Your Cards Can Become Money
The Eddie system means eligible cards can become resources rather than requiring an entirely separate resource card type.
That creates meaningful decisions about which cards are worth keeping and which should fund the rest of your strategy.
You're Fighting Over Objectives
Cyberpunk's primary victory condition is based around controlling Gigs rather than simply reducing an opponent from a starting life total to zero.
Legends Are Separate From Your Main Deck
Your three Legends create another layer of deck construction and strategy while providing access to recognizable characters from the Cyberpunk universe.
The Heist Starter Deck
One of the game's introductory products is The Heist Starter Deck.
This deck focuses on Night City mercenaries and features characters including V, Jackie, and Viktor.
The starter contains a 40-card deck plus three Legends, along with a six-die polyhedral set, paper playmat, gameplay guide, and tip cards.
For someone completely new to Cyberpunk TCG, a starter deck provides a much easier entry point than immediately trying to construct a deck from booster packs.
Embracing Power Starter Deck
The second introductory deck is Embracing Power.
Rather than focusing on Night City's mercenaries, this deck puts the Arasaka Corporation front and centre, with characters including Saburo, Goro, and Yorinobu.
Like The Heist, it includes a 40-card playable deck, three Legends, dice, play materials, and introductory information.
Having two differently themed starters also provides a convenient way for two new players to learn together.
Cyberpunk TCG Booster Packs
Cyberpunk is a full trading card game, so players can expand their collections through booster packs.
Welcome to Night City booster displays contain 36 booster packs, while the Kickstarter information lists 12 cards per Beta booster pack.
Boosters allow players to find additional Units, Legends, Gear, Programs, different rarities, and collectible variants while developing their constructed decks.
Is Cyberpunk TCG Collectible?
Very much so.
The game is clearly targeting both players and collectors, with multiple rarities and alternate treatments available across the range.
The early releases have included standard cards alongside premium and limited treatments, including Iconic Rare cards and special promotional versions.
The Kickstarter campaign also included collector-focused items such as metal cards, serialized cards, box toppers, promotional cards, and pre-graded cards.
That means there are effectively two sides to the game: building functional decks for organized play and collecting premium versions of popular Cyberpunk characters.
How Big Was the Cyberpunk TCG Kickstarter?
The game's crowdfunding campaign attracted significant attention.
More than 50,000 backers supported the Kickstarter, with total pledges exceeding $28 million.
That gave Cyberpunk TCG a substantial player and collector base before the standard retail launch even began.
The more important question going forward will be how effectively that initial interest translates into regular local play, ongoing releases, and an active organized-play community.
Cyberpunk TCG Organized Play
WeirdCo is putting significant emphasis on hobby stores and organized play.
More than 3,000 game stores worldwide had already registered as Cyberpunk TCG retailers and Organized Play locations by July 2026.
Limited Beta Events took place during September, giving players an early opportunity to experience Welcome to Night City.
The much wider prerelease period begins October 30.
Welcome to Night City Prerelease
The first Welcome to Night City prereleases are scheduled for the weekend beginning October 30, 2026.
These events use a sealed format, meaning you don't need an existing Cyberpunk collection to participate.
Each prerelease kit contains:
- 6 Welcome to Night City Retail Booster Packs
- 3 additional random Legend cards
- 1 Gorilla Arms promo card
- 1 complete set of Cyberpunk TCG polyhedral dice
Players use the cards they open to construct their deck for the event.
For anyone interested in trying the game without immediately committing to a constructed deck, prerelease events should provide one of the easiest entry points.
What Happens After Prerelease?
Organized play continues quickly after Welcome to Night City arrives.
Night City Showdowns are scheduled from November 13 through December 6, 2026. These events move into constructed play and use a best-of-three format.
That progression gives new players an opportunity to learn through prerelease before beginning to build more focused competitive decks.
Who Is Cyberpunk TCG For?
There are several audiences likely to find something interesting here.
Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners fans get a new way to collect characters and explore the setting.
Existing TCG players get a game with some unusual mechanics, particularly the Gig dice, Legends, and card-to-resource Eddie system.
Collectors have alternate treatments, rare cards, promos, and character-driven chase cards to pursue.
New TCG players can begin with starter decks or a prerelease rather than immediately needing to understand the entire card pool.
Should You Start With a Starter Deck or Booster Box?
If your main goal is learning how to play, start with a Starter Deck.
The Heist and Embracing Power give you functioning decks, Legends, dice, and the supporting materials needed to understand the game.
If you already understand the rules and want to build your own decks or collect the set, booster packs and displays become more useful.
Another good option is the prerelease. Six boosters plus three additional Legends gives you enough material to build a sealed deck while learning alongside other players.
Is Cyberpunk TCG Worth Watching?
Cyberpunk TCG is entering an extremely competitive trading card game market, so its long-term position will depend on continued product support, organized play, card design, availability, and whether local communities continue playing after launch.
What it already has is substantial initial interest, a recognizable licence, a large Kickstarter community, retail support, and gameplay mechanics that give it its own identity rather than simply copying an established TCG formula.
The October 30 prerelease and the first several months of organized play should give us a much clearer picture of how the game develops at the local-store level.
