THOUSAND SONS RUBRIC MARINES
The Rubric Marines are the result of a sorcerous ritual gone awry. During the Horus Heresy, the Thousand Sons Legion was afflicted by a terrible mutation called the Flesh Change. To stabilize their genetic instability, the Primarch Magnus the Red and his sorcerers performed a ritual known as the Rubric of Ahriman.
The Rubric of Ahriman: The Rubric of Ahriman was intended to stabilize the Thousand Sons' gene-seed and save them from the Flesh Change. However, the ritual went disastrously wrong. Instead of curing the mutation, it stripped away the psychic potential of most Thousand Sons, reducing them to dust within their power armor. Only those with strong psychic abilities were spared from this fate.
Rubric Marines: The Rubric Marines are the result of the Rubric of Ahriman. They are the former Thousand Sons Astartes whose physical forms were reduced to dust, leaving only their incorporeal souls bound within their armor. The rubric process rendered them effectively immortal but also left them as soulless automata, devoid of free will or personality.
Characteristics: Rubric Marines appear as ghostly figures clad in ornate and ancient power armor, their movements jerky and mechanical. They are effectively mindless automatons, following the commands of their sorcerous masters without question. Despite their lack of consciousness, they remain potent warriors, wielding their weapons with deadly accuracy on the battlefield.
Sorcerous Control: Rubric Marines are typically led into battle by Thousand Sons sorcerers, who possess the psychic abilities necessary to control and direct them. Through sorcerous commands, these sorcerers can guide the Rubric Marines in battle, unleashing their formidable firepower upon the enemy.
Tragic Existence: The existence of the Rubric Marines is a tragic one. Once proud and powerful warriors of the Thousand Sons Legion, they are now little more than soulless shells, bound to their armor for eternity. Many view their existence as a curse, a reminder of the folly of meddling with the powers of the Warp.
Role: Rubric Marines serve as the core infantry units of the Thousand Sons Legion. Despite their lack of consciousness, they are formidable warriors on the battlefield, capable of laying down a hail of deadly firepower with their inferno bolters and other weapons.
Overall, the Rubric Marines are a haunting and tragic aspect of the Thousand Sons, embodying the consequences of their hubris and the depths of their damnation to the powers of Chaos. Despite their lack of consciousness, they remain potent warriors on the battlefield, a testament to the sorcerous might of the Thousand Sons Legion.
