Pokemon Generations 9: What We Know So Far

If you're a fan of the Pokemon franchise, then you're probably wondering what's in store for the next generation of Pokemon games. Pokemon has been around for over two decades, and with every new generation, we get new Pokemon, new regions to explore, and new gameplay mechanics.

The last generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon Sword and Shield, was released in 2019, and since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next generation. So, what do we know about Pokemon Generations 9 so far? Let's take a closer look.

Pokemon Generations 9: Video Game Reveal After Rumors and Speculation

Generation IX was first shown via a Pokémon Presents video presentation on February 27, 2022, revealing Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to the world.

The Gen 9 Pokemon Scarlet & Violet games were finally released on November 18, 2022, and fans fell in love with the gameplay, and the beautiful new Paldea region to explore. Brand new villain group Team Star also makes an appearance. Advances in gameplay include seamless open world playability, multiplayer - plus 103 new Pokemon, 48 new moves, 31 new abilities!

POKEMON SCARLET & VIOLET: The 1st TCG Set in Generation 9

Following tradition, Pokemon revealed the games’ first accompanying TCG set shortly after, appropriately named after both versions. Besides the new ‘ex’ mechanic revealed during the 2022 World Championships, The Pokemon Company has announced a few card design changes like silver card borders. For decades, the Pokemon TCG cards in the US donned a yellow border to differentiate them from the Japanese equivalent much faster. With the release of Scarlet & Violet in March, cards will now have the same silver border as Japanese cards have for years, which some fans consider a better-looking option.

Noteworthy cards from the expansion:

12 double rare Pokémon ex, including two Tera Pokémon ex featuring Arcanine and Gyarados

12 ultra rare Pokémon ex and eight ultra rare Supporter cards

24 illustration rare Pokémon

10 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards, such as Miriam, Miraidon ex & Gardevoir ex

Six hyper rare gold etched cards, which can include Pokémon ex, Trainer, and Energy cards

The Future of Pokemon Generation 9: Paldea Evolved
