The McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.1 is a British variant of the iconic F-4 Phantom II, adapted for use by the Royal Air Force (RAF) after initially being developed for the Royal Navy. Known for its powerful twin Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines, advanced radar systems, and robust airframe, the FG.1 became a key component of the UK's air defense during the Cold War. After the Royal Navy phased out its use of aircraft carriers, the FG.1 was transferred to the RAF, where it served primarily in the interceptor role, defending British airspace against potential threats.
