What is Keyforge?
Emerging from the imaginative genius of Magic The Gathering creator Richard Garfield, KeyForge shines as a remarkable card game, where each deck boasts one-of-a-kind qualities. Debuting in the autumn of 2018, KeyForge swiftly gained immense popularity, with millions of decks finding homes across the globe. Regrettably, a combination of technological setbacks and the recent pandemic compelled Fantasy Flight Games to halt the ongoing production of KeyForge.
However, a turning point arrived in June of '22 when Ghost Galaxy, a fresh venture spearheaded by Christian T. Petersen, the visionary behind Fantasy Flight Games, stepped in. Ghost Galaxy acquired both the KeyForge game and its intellectual property, signifying a new chapter for this distinctive card game.
How to Play?
In a typical KeyForge game, two players assume the roles of legendary Archons of the Crucible. The objective is to be the first to "forge" three "keys" ahead of the opponent. To accomplish this, players strive to accumulate the vital substance known as "Æmber." When a player possesses six or more Æmber at the beginning of their turn, they successfully forge a key.
To amass Æmber, players have the options of "reaping" with their active creatures, seizing it from their adversary, or employing various cards from their deck. Naturally, the aim is to impede the opponent from executing these actions while ensuring one's ability to carry them out more swiftly.
Achieving the acquisition of three keys mandates a meticulous assessment of your cards and available choices. The pivotal decision involves selecting one of your three Houses to activate during each turn, followed by determining the actions to execute using the cards from that chosen House.
Every KeyForge deck comprises precisely 36 cards, divided into three distinct houses, with 12 cards representing each. Commencing your turn requires designating one of your three Houses as active for that specific round. Subsequently, you gain the ability to initiate actions, encompassing card play, combat, and card ability utilization, solely employing cards from the currently active House.
Winds Of Exchange
The sixth KeyForge installment, Winds of Exchange emerges under the banner of Ghost Galaxy, marking their inaugural publication in the series. Within its dynamic realm, you'll find a treasure trove of fresh content, with a myriad of hundreds of novel cards beckoning, and a spotlight on the captivating Traders of Ekwidon faction. As an innovative twist, token creatures step onto the stage, bestowing a novel dimension to gameplay.
Enter the Merchant Compacts of Ekwidon—a sprawling consortium of traders fixated on brokering deals and venturing into fresh opportunities across the Crucible's expanse. Their art lies in orchestrating subtle maneuvers to gain the upper hand in any given scenario.
Amid this vibrant landscape, the Token Creature mechanic emerges as a prominent hallmark of Winds of Exchange. At the heart of this mechanic, each deck showcases a designated token creature card, acting as a blueprint for all ensuing "token creatures" birthed by card effects within your deck.
Noteworthy takeaways encompass the induction of House Ekwidon into the fold, a radiant addition to the roster. As a reminder, the uniqueness of every KeyForge deck remains an unwavering constant, ensuring diverse experiences for players.
Beyond the realm of cards, a new era dawns with the Ghost Galaxy imprint, marking their debut in the KeyForge saga. An exciting horizon unfolds with the introduction of the New Alliance OP Format, ushering in innovative avenues to explore in gameplay.
Looking ahead, the anticipated "Vault Tour" scheduled for the Summer/Fall of 2023 emerges as a grand celebration of KeyForge, poised to further elevate the game's prominence and allure.
