The Grumman F6F Hellcat is an American carrier based fighter aircraft from World War 2. It was designed to replace the earlier F4F Wildcat and to counter the Japanese A6M Zero.
During the course of the war it proved to be the dominant fighter for the US Navy during the second half of the Pacific war.
