Bolt Action Italian Alpini Mountain Troops plastic boxed set

In the rugged terrains of Italy's picturesque mountains, a force known as Le Penne Nere stood tall and fierce, earning their name from the ominous raven feathers adorning their headgear. These formidable warriors were none other than the Alpini, the Italian Army's prized specialists in mountain warfare. With a legacy stretching back to 1872, they proudly held the title of the oldest mountain specialists in the world, a testament to their enduring strength and expertise.

Throughout their history, the Alpini faced numerous trials and tribulations, but none were as daunting as the events that unfolded in 1935. Under the shadow of the iron-fisted Mussolini's fascist government, they were reorganized into six divisions and dispatched to the Eastern Front, side by side with their German counterparts, to engage in a brutal conflict against the Soviet Union.

It was an improbable scenario for these mountain warriors, expertly trained and equipped for infantry combat amid the rugged peaks, to find themselves thrust onto the flat plains of the Don River, facing an unyielding onslaught of tanks. Yet, undeterred by the odds stacked against them, the tenacious Alpini displayed unwavering resilience and cunning, escaping encirclement and defying fate to survive.

Their courage knew no bounds as the war raged on, and the Alpini divisions found themselves traversing far beyond the Italian borders. From the sun-kissed lands of Albania to the historic soil of France, the Alpini left their mark in the annals of history. They forged ahead to confront the challenges of Greece and Yugoslavia, and even ventured as far afield as the vast lands of East Africa.

The year 1943 brought a turning point for the Alpini, as the world witnessed the unraveling of alliances and allegiances. While some divisions chose to join the cause of the Allied forces, standing shoulder to shoulder with the champions of freedom, the 4th Alpini Division remained resolute, fighting steadfastly alongside their German allies.

Through triumphs and tragedies, victories and sacrifices, the legacy of Le Penne Nere endured, forever etched in the heart of Italy and the memories of those who witnessed their indomitable spirit. The Alpini's journey through history was not without pain or controversy, but their unwavering dedication to their craft and their country left an indelible mark on the world of mountain warfare.

As the winds continue to whisper tales of bravery and valor, the legend of the Alpini lives on, inspiring generations to come, and reminding us of the enduring spirit of those who once wore the black feathers upon their heads.
