The Spanish Scutarii were ancient Iberian infantry soldiers who served as mercenaries and allied troops for various Mediterranean powers, including Carthage and Rome, during the classical period. Known for their versatility and effectiveness in battle, the Scutarii were a significant component of the military forces in the Iberian Peninsula.

During the Civil War, a number of key legions were raised in Spain, including Caesar's Ninth, all direct descendants of the tribal warriors depicted here.
