Developed from the successful and well-understood Chi-Ha, the Chi-Nu possessed considerably thicker armour, and crucially a 75mm Type 3 main gun. This was one of the most potent Japanese anti-tank gun designs, and when paired with the improved armour allowed the Chi-Nu to fight on roughly equal terms with the M4 Sherman. Although capable, it would never see combat as the entire production run of a little over 150 was retained for the defence of the Japanese Home Islands, waiting for an invasion which never came. However, it makes for a fascinating historical what-if!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn the Bolt Action tabletop, the Chi-Nu allows otherwise extremely lightweight Japanese Armoured Platoons to field a Medium Tank of their own.
